Man We fashioned from fermented clay dried tingling hard, 26 And the jinn did We create aforetime of essential fire. 27 And (remember) when your Lord said to the angels: "I am going to create a man (Adam) from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. 28 and when I have formed him fully and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down before him in prostration! 29 Therefore all the angels, each and every one of them, fell prostrate. 30 except Iblis; he refused to join those who prostrated. 31 (Allah) said: "O Iblis! what is your reason for not being among those who prostrated themselves?" 32 He said: I am not such that I should make obeisance to a mortal whom Thou hast created of the essence of black mud fashioned in shape. 33 (Allah) said: 'Begone, you are accursed! 34 "And verily, the curse shall be upon you till the Day of Recompense (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)." 35 Iblis prayed, "Lord, grant me respite until the Day of Judgment". 36 Allah said: "Then, verily, you are of those reprieved, 37 Till the Day of the Time known. 38 [Iblees] said, "My Lord, because You have put me in error, I will surely make [disobedience] attractive to them on earth, and I will mislead them all 39 "Except Thy servants among them, sincere and purified (by Thy Grace)." 40 (To which God) said: "This way is right by Me. 41 Surely, as regards My servants, you have no authority, over them except those who follow you of the deviators. 42 For whom the ordained place is surely Hell, 43 It has seven gates; for every gate is of them a portion designated." 44
