Man We fashioned from fermented clay dried tingling hard, 26 and the jinn before (the human being) of smokeless fire. 27 When your Lord said to the angels: 'See, I am creating a mortal from clay of molded mud. 28 Then when I have formed him and breathed into him of My Spirit fall down unto him prostrate. 29 So the angels prostrated - all of them entirely, 30 Except Iblis. He refused to bow with the adorers. 31 God asked Iblis, "What made you not join the others in prostration?" 32 Iblis replied, "I did not want to prostrate before a human being whom You have created out of mud-moulded clay". 33 Said Allah, “Therefore exit from Paradise, for you are an outcast.” 34 and there shall be a curse upon you till the Day of Recompense." 35 Said he, 'My Lord, respite me till the day they shall be raised.' 36 Said Allah, “You are of those given respite.” 37 Till the period of the time made known. 38 [Whereupon Iblis] said: "O my Sustainer! Since Thou hast thwarted me, I shall indeed make [all that is evil] on earth seem goodly to them, and shall most certainly beguile them - into grievous error 39 excepting those Thy servants among them that are devoted. 40 (To which God) said: "This way is right by Me. 41 verily, thou shalt have no power over My creatures - unless it be such as are [already] lost in grievous error and follow thee [of their own will]: 42 "And surely, Hell is the promised place for them all. 43 Which has several gates, and each gate is marked for every section of them." 44
