He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
