At length when the messengers arrived among the adherents of Lut, 61 He said: "You are people I do not know." 62 They said, "No, but we bring you news about what they disputed, 63 "Yet we bring to you the truth, and we are truthful. 64 Go, then, with thy household while it is yet night, with thyself following them in the rear; and let none of you look back, but proceed whither you are bidden." 65 And We revealed to him this decree, that the roots of these shall be cut off in the morning. 66 In the meantime the people of the city came to Lot rejoicing. 67 Exclaimed [Lot]: "Behold, these are my guests: so put me not to shame, 68 Fear God and do not shame me." 69 They said: "Did we not forbid thee (to speak) for all and sundry?" 70 "Here are my daughters," said Lot, "if you are so active." 71 By your life, they wandered on in their wild intoxication 72 Therefore the scream overcame them at sunrise. 73 and We turned those [sinful towns] upside down, and rained down upon them stone-hard blows of chastisement pre-ordained. 74 Behold! in this are Signs for those who by tokens do understand. 75 That town lies on a road which still exists. 76 surely in that is a sign for believers. 77 The dwellers of the Wood (near Midian) were also wicked. 78 So We took vengeance on them. Both are still there on the highway, plain for all to see. 79
