At length when the messengers arrived among the adherents of Lut, 61 he said: "Surely you are an unknown folk." 62 They said, 'Nay, but we have brought thee that concerning which they were doubting. 63 And bring thee the Truth, and lo! we are truth-tellers. 64 Depart with your family in a part of the night and walk behind them and let none of you turn round. Go to a place where you are commanded' 65 We informed him that the unbelievers would be utterly destroyed. 66 The people of the town came along, revelling, 67 He said, “These are my guests – do not dishonour me.” 68 And keep your duty to Allah, and shame me not! 69 They said, 'Have we not forbidden thee all beings?' 70 He said: these are my daughters, if act ye must. 71 [But the angels spoke thus:] "As thou livest, [O Lot, they will not listen to thee:] behold, in their delirium [of lust] they are but blindly stumbling to and fro!" 72 and the Cry seized them at the sunrise, 73 And We turned the city upside down, and rained on them stones of hardened lava. 74 Surely, in that there are signs for those who contemplate. 75 And lo! it is upon a road still uneffaced. 76 Surely, in that there is a sign for those who believe. 77 Certainly the dwellers in the Thicket were evildoers, 78 So we took vengeance on them; and lo! they both are on a high-road plain to see. 79
