The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Praise be to God. He has sent the Book to His servant and has made it a flawless guide (for human beings) 1 A just Book, to warn of Allah’s severe punishment, and to give glad tidings to the believers who do good deeds, that for them is an excellent reward. 2 and they will live for ever therein. 3 and admonish those who say that God has begotten a son. 4 Surely, of this they have no knowledge, neither they nor their fathers; it is a monstrous word that comes from their mouths, they say nothing but a lie. 5 (O Muhammad), if they do not believe in this Message, you will perhaps torment yourself to death with grief, sorrowing over them. 6 Surely We have made whatever is on the earth an embellishment for it, so that We may try them (as to) which of them is best in works. 7 And indeed We shall one day make all that is on it a barren plain. 8 Or, do you think that the Fellows of the Cave and the Inscription were of Our wonderful signs? 9 When the young men fled for refuge to the Cave and said: Our Lord! Give us mercy from Thy presence, and shape for us right conduct in our plight. 10 We then thumped upon their ears in the Cave for a number of years. (* Put them to sleep.) 11 Then We awakened them that We might show which of the two factions was most precise in calculating what [extent] they had remained in time. 12
