(The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah) 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] -- 146 "Gardens and Springs, 147 sown fields and palmtrees, with slender spathes. 148 "And you carve houses out of mountains with great skill. 149 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me; 150 "And follow not the bidding of those who are extravagant,- 151 those who spread corruption on earth instead of setting things to rights!" 152 They said, 'Thou art merely one of those that are bewitched; 153 You are but a human like ourselves. Produce for us a sign, if you are of the truthful' 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 “And do not touch her with evil intentions for the punishment of the Great Day will seize you.” 156 So they hamstrung her, and in the morning could only regret. 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
