So they both proceeded, till, when they embarked the ship, he (Khidr) scuttled it. Musa (Moses) said: "Have you scuttled it in order to drown its people? Verily, you have committed a thing "Imra" (a Munkar - evil, bad, dreadful thing)." 71 Said he, 'Did I not say that thou couldst never bear with me patiently?' 72 Moses said: "Rebuke me not for forgetting, nor grieve me by raising difficulties in my case." 73 So they departed; until, when they met a lad, he slew him. He said, 'What, hast thou slain a soul innocent, and that not to retaliate for a soul slain? Thou hast indeed done a horrible thing.' 74 ۞ (Khidr) said: "Did I not tell you that you can have no patience with me?" 75 [Musa (Moses)] said: "If I ask you anything after this, keep me not in your company, you have received an excuse from me." 76 The two went on till they came upon some villagers, and asked the people for food, but they refused to entertain them. There they found a wall that was crumbling, which he repaired. Moses remarked: "You could have demanded wages for it if you liked." 77 [The sage] replied: "This is the parting of ways between me and thee. [And now] I shall let thee know the real meaning of all [those events] that thou wert unable to bear with patience; 78 As for the boat, it belonged to poor men working in the sea, so I intended to damage it, for there was before them a prince taking every boat by force. 79 As for the lad, his parents were believers; and we were afraid he would impose on them insolence and unbelief; 80 It was our wish that their Lord should grant them another in exchange, another better in purity and tenderness. 81 And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city, and there was beneath it a treasure for them, and their father had been righteous. So your Lord intended that they reach maturity and extract their treasure, as a mercy from your Lord. And I did it not of my own accord. That is the interpretation of that about which you could not have patience." 82
