So they set out, but, when they got into a boat, the man made a hole in it. Moses exclaimed, "Have you made a hole in the boat to drown the people in it? You have indeed done a dreadful thing!" 71 Said he, 'Did I not say that thou couldst never bear with me patiently?' 72 Moses said: "Rebuke me not for forgetting, nor grieve me by raising difficulties in my case." 73 They continued on their journey until they met a young boy whom he killed. Moses said, "How could you murder an innocent soul? This is certainly a horrible act". 74 ۞ Said he, 'Did I not say that thou couldst never bear with me patiently?' 75 [Moses] said, "If I should ask you about anything after this, then do not keep me as a companion. You have obtained from me an excuse." 76 Then they both proceeded, till, when they came to the people of a town, they asked them for food, but they refused to entertain them. Then they found therein a wall about to collapse and he (Khidr) set it up straight. [Musa (Moses)] said: If you had wished, surely, you could have taken wages for it!" 77 Said he, 'This is the parting between me and thee. Now I will tell thee the interpretation of that thou couldst not bear patiently. 78 “In respect of the boat – it belonged to the poor people who worked on the river, so I wished to flaw it – and behind them was a king who would capture every sound ship.” 79 As for the lad, his parents were people of faith, and we feared lest he should plague them with transgression and disbelief, 80 So we intended that their Lord should change for the twain one better than he in piety and closer in affection. 81 And as for the wall, it belonged to two orphan boys in the city, and there was beneath it a treasure for them, and their father had been righteous. So your Lord intended that they reach maturity and extract their treasure, as a mercy from your Lord. And I did it not of my own accord. That is the interpretation of that about which you could not have patience." 82
