They will ask thee of Dhu'l-Qarneyn. Say: I shall recite unto you a remembrance of him. 83 We granted him power in the land and endowed him with all kinds of resources. 84 So he followed a way 85 until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it setting in a muddy spring, and he found nearby a people. We said, 'O Dhool Karnain, either thou shalt chastise them, or thou shalt take towards them a way of kindness.' 86 He said: "We will chastise him who does wrong, whereafter he will be returned to his Lord and He will chastise him grievously. 87 But he who believes and does the right will have an excellent reward, and we shall make things easy for him." 88 Then he followed a way 89 Until, when he came to the rising of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had not made against it any shield. 90 Thus. And We had encompassed [all] that he had in knowledge. 91 Then he followed (another) way, 92 until he came between two mountains. He found beside them a people who could scarcely understand a word [of his language]. 93 They said, "O Dhu'l-Qarnayn! Gog and Magog are causing corruption in the land, so may we pay you tribute on condition that you set a barrier between us and them?" 94 He said: "(The power) in which my Lord has established me is better (than tribute): Help me therefore with strength (and labour): I will erect a strong barrier between you and them: 95 “Give me sheets of iron”; until when he had raised the wall equal to the edge of the two mountains, he said, “Blow”; to the extent that he made it ablaze – he said, “Bring me molten copper to pour upon it.” 96 Thus were they made powerless to scale it or to dig through it. 97 Said [the King]: "This is a mercy from my Sustainer! Yet when the time appointed by my Sustainer shall come, He will make this [rampart] level with the ground: and my Sustainer's promise always comes true!" 98 ۞ On that day, We will let them surge on one another, and the Horn shall be blown, and We will gather them all together. 99 And We will present Hell that Day to the Disbelievers, on display - 100 Those whose eyes had been within a cover [removed] from My remembrance, and they were not able to hear. 101
