Mary (Maryam)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Kaf-Ha-Ya-'Ain-Sad. 1 A mention of the mercy of thy Lord unto His servant Zachariah. 2 When he called upon his Lord in a low voice, 3 He said: "Lord! My bones have grown feeble and my head is glistening with age; yet, never have my prayers to You, my Lord, been unfruitful. 4 “And I fear my relatives after me and my wife is barren therefore bestow upon me from Yourself one who will take up my work.” 5 Who will be heir to me, and heir to the house of Jacob; and make him obedient to You, O Lord." 6 (His prayer was answered): "O Zakariya! We give thee good news of a son: His name shall be Yahya: on none by that name have We conferred distinction before." 7 He said: O my Lord! in what wise shall there be for me a boy, whereas my wife hath been barren, and surely have reached an age of extreme degree? 8 He replied: 'It shall be so; your Lord says: "It is easy for Me, indeed, I created you before time when you were not a thing." 9 [Zakariya (Zachariah)] said: "My Lord! Appoint for me a sign." He said: "Your sign is that you shall not speak unto mankind for three nights, though having no bodily defect." 10 So he went forth to his people from his place of worship, then he made known to them that they should glorify (Allah) morning and evening. 11 To John We said, "Hold fast the Book," and while he was still a child, We bestowed upon him wisdom, 12 And compassion from Our presence, and purity; and he was devout, 13 And duteous unto his parents, and was not high-handed rebel. 14 And peace is upon him the day he was born, and the day he will taste death, and the day he will be raised alive. 15
