Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Kaf Ha Ya Ain Suad. 1 Mention of the mercy of thy Lord to His bondman Zakariyya. 2 When he quietly called his Lord 3 Saying: My Lord! Lo! the bones of me wax feeble and my head is shining with grey hair, and I have never been unblest in prayer to Thee, my Lord. 4 And indeed, I fear the successors after me, and my wife has been barren, so give me from Yourself an heir 5 "(One that) will (truly) represent me, and represent the posterity of Jacob; and make him, O my Lord! one with whom Thou art well-pleased!" 6 "Zachariah, We bring you good news of a son whose name shall be John. We have not given such a name to anyone before." 7 'How shall I have a son, Lord' he asked, 'when my wife is barren, and I am advanced in years' 8 He said: So (it will be). Thy Lord saith: It is easy for Me, even as I created thee before, when thou wast naught. 9 He (Zachariah) said: 'Lord, make for me a sign' He replied: 'Your sign is that you shall not speak to people for three nights being without fault' 10 Then he came out from the Sanctuary to his nation, and gestured to them to exalt (their Lord) at the dawn and at the evening. 11 We commanded John, Zachariah's son, to follow the guidance of the Lord with due steadfastness. We gave knowledge and wisdom to John during his childhood. 12 and tenderness [of heart] and purity. He was pious, 13 And was good to his parents and not forceful, nor disobedient. 14 Peace be upon him on the day he was born and the day he dies, and on him the day when he is raised up alive. 15
