The Prophets (Al-Anbyaa')
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ There hath approached unto mankind their reckoning, while they in neglect are turning away. 1 Whenever a new advice comes to them from their Lord, they do not listen to it except while playing. 2 Their hearts trifling; and those who are unjust counsel together in secret: He is nothing but a mortal like yourselves; what! will you then yield to enchantment while you see? 3 Say: "My Sustainer knows whatever is spoken in heaven and on earth; and He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing." 4 "Nay," they say: "[Muhammad propounds] the most involved and confusing of dreams!" "Nay, but he has invented [all] this!" - "Nay, but he is [only] a poet!" - [and,] "Let him, then, come unto us with a miracle, just as those [prophets] of old were sent [with miracles]?" 5 Not one city that We destroyed before them believed; what then, will they not believe? 6 Before thee, also, the messengers We sent were but men, to whom We granted inspiration: If ye realise this not, ask of those who possess the Message. 7 And We did not make them bodies not eating the food, and they were not to abide (forever). 8 In the end, We made good unto them Our promise, and We saved them and all whom We willed [to save,] and We destroyed those who had wasted their own selves. 9 We have revealed for you (O men!) a book in which is a Message for you: will ye not then understand? 10
