He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 to him thou attendest 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and in awe of God 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, pure. 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what has God created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olives and palms 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
