۞ And indeed We bestowed aforetime on Ibrahim (Abraham) his (portion of) guidance, and We were Well-Acquainted with him (as to his Belief in the Oneness of Allah, etc.). 51 Recall, when he said to his father and his people: "What are these images to which you are devoutly clinging?" 52 They answered: "We found our forefathers worshipping them." 53 He said: "Certainly you and your fathers have all been in manifest error." 54 They said: "Have you brought us the truth, or are you one of those who play about?" 55 He said: Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, Who created them; and I am of those who testify unto that. 56 By Allah, I shall certainly carry out my plan against your gods after you are gone." 57 Then he made them fragments, all except the big one of them, that haply unto it they may return. 58 They said: Who hath done this to our gods? Surely it must be some evil-doer. 59 'We have heard a young man called Abraham mention them' they replied. 60 Their chiefs said, "Bring him before the eyes of the people and let them testify that he has spoken against the idols." 61 "Did you do this to our gods, O Abraham?" they enquired. 62 He said, 'No; it was this great one of them that did it. Question them; if they are able to speak!' 63 So they returned one to another saying, 'Surely, it is you who are the harmdoers' 64 Then were they confounded with shame: (they said), "Thou knowest full well that these (idols) do not speak!" 65 He said, "Do you, instead of God, worship things that can neither harm nor benefit you?" 66 Fie upon you and that you serve apart from God! Do you not understand?' 67 They said, "Burn him and support your gods - if you are to act." 68 [But] We said: O fire! Be thou cool, and [a source of] inner peace for Abraham!" 69 And they wished to cause him harm, so We made them the greatest of losers. 70 We saved him and Lot, and brought them to the land which We had blessed for all the worlds. 71 And We bestowed upon him ls-haq and Ya qub as a grandson; and each one We made righteous. 72 We made them leaders who guided people by Our command. We revealed to them the doing of good, observance of prayer and the giving of alms and Us alone did they worship. 73 We bestowed upon Lot sound judgement and knowledge, and We delivered him from the city that was immersed in foul deeds. They were indeed a wicked people, exceedingly disobedient. 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy: for he was one of the Righteous. 75
