۞ Before this We gave Abraham his virtue, for We knew him. 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these images, to which you are devoted?" 52 They said: we found our fathers the worshippers thereof. 53 Abraham said, "Indeed, you and your fathers have been clearly misguided." 54 They said: "Are you expressing your true ideas before us or are you jesting?" 55 He said: "Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth which He created and to that I bear witness before you. 56 And, by Allah, I shall circumvent your idols after ye have gone away and turned your backs. 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) but the biggest of them, that they might turn (and address themselves) to it. 58 They said, 'Who has. done this with our gods? Surely he is one of the evildoers.' 59 They said: We heard a youth make mention of them, who is called Abraham. 60 They said: bring him then before the eyes of the people, haply they may bear witness. 61 They said: "Are you the one who has done this to our gods, O Ibrahim (Abraham)?" 62 He said: But this, their chief hath done it. So question them, if they can speak. 63 Thereupon they turned to their (inner) selves and said (to themselves): "Surely it is you who are the wrong-doers." 64 Then were they confounded with shame: (they said), "Thou knowest full well that these (idols) do not speak!" 65 Said [Abraham]: "Do you then worship, instead of God, something that cannot benefit you in any way, nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon that which ye worship beside Allah! Will ye not then reflect? 67 They said: 'Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do anything' 68 We (Allah) said: "O fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibrahim (Abraham)!" 69 They had sought to do evil to him, but We caused them to be the worst losers, 70 And We delivered him and Lut to the land wherein We had placed Our blessings for the worlds. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and [Isaac's son] Jacob as an additional gift and caused all of them to be righteous men, 72 And We made them leaders, guiding by Our command; and We revealed unto them the doing of good deeds and the establishment of prayer, and the giving of poor-rate; and of Us they were the worshippers. 73 And Lot -- to him We gave judgment and knowledge; and we delivered him from the city that had been doing deeds of corruption; they were an evil people, truly ungodly; 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy, truly, he was of the righteous. 75
