The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 The Companions of the Right 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 near to flowing water 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virgins. 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
