The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 a host of the ancients 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On lined couches, 15 facing one another. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 and spreading shade 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
