۞ We had earlier given Abraham true direction, for We knew him well. 51 Recall what time he said unto his father and his people: what are these images to which ye are cleaving? 52 They answered: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 Abraham said, "Indeed, you and your fathers have been clearly misguided." 54 They said: "Are you expressing your true ideas before us or are you jesting?" 55 He said, "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, He Who created them (from nothing): and I am a witness to this (Truth). 56 “And, by oath of Allah, I shall seek to harm your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs.” 57 He broke them all into pieces, except for the biggest one of them, so that they might return to it [for enquiry]. 58 "Who has done this to our deities? He must be a wrongdoer." 59 They said, 'We heard a young man making mention of them, and he was called Abraham.' 60 Their chiefs said, "Bring him before the eyes of the people and let them testify that he has spoken against the idols." 61 They said, 'So, art thou the man who did this unto our gods, Abraham?' 62 Said he, “Rather, their chief may have done it; so question them, if they can speak.” 63 So they returned to [blaming] themselves and said [to each other], "Indeed, you are the wrongdoers." 64 But then they reversed their minds: 'You know they do not speak' 65 He said: Worship ye then instead of Allah that which cannot profit you at all, nor harm you? 66 Fie upon you and upon all that you worship instead of God! Will you not, then, use your reason?" 67 They said, "Burn him to ashes if you want to help your gods". 68 We said: O fire! be thou cool and peace unto Ibrahim. 69 And they wished to cause him harm, so We made them the greatest of losers. 70 But We delivered him and (his nephew) Lut (and directed them) to the land which We have blessed for the nations. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob as an additional gift, making each of them righteous. 72 And We made them leaders who guide by Our command, and We sent them the divine revelation to do good deeds and to keep the prayer established and to give charity; and they used to worship Us. 73 We bestowed upon Lot sound judgement and knowledge, and We delivered him from the city that was immersed in foul deeds. They were indeed a wicked people, exceedingly disobedient. 74 And We admitted him to Our Mercy, truly, he was of the righteous. 75
