The chiefs of the people who did not believe and denied the life to come, though We had given them good things of this life to enjoy, (said): "He is only a mortal like you. He eats as you do, and drinks as you drink. 33 If you obey a mortal like yourselves, you shall be lost. 34 Does he promise you that after you die and become dust and bones you will be brought back to life again? 35 ۞ Far-fetched, utterly far-fetched is what you are being promised. 36 This is our only life. We live and will die but we will never be brought back to life again. 37 He is naught but a man who has forged against God a lie, and we will not believe him.' 38 He said, "My Lord, support me because they have denied me." 39 [And God] would say: "After a little while they will surely be smitten with remorse!" 40 So the shriek seized them in truth, and We made them as [plant] stubble. Then away with the wrongdoing people. 41 Then, after them, We created other generations. 42 No nation can live beyond its allotted time, or lag behind. 43 Then We sent Our Messengers in succession. Yet whenever its Messenger came to a nation they belied him, so We made them follow others, and We made them but as tales, so begone the nation who did not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our Signs and a clear authority 45 unto Pharaoh and his Council; but they waxed proud, and they were a lofty people, 46 They said: "Shall we believe in two men like ourselves? And their people are subject to us!" 47 So they rejected them and became of those who were destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, in order that they might receive guidance. 49 And We made the son of Marium and his mother a sign, and We gave them a shelter on a lofty ground having meadows and springs. 50
