O ye messengers! Eat of the good things, and do right. Lo! I am Aware of what ye do. 51 And indeed this, your religion, is one religion, and I am your Lord, so fear Me." 52 The people divided themselves into many sects, each with their own book and each happy with whatever they had. 53 So leave them immersed in their heedlessness till an appointed time. 54 Do they fancy that Our continuing to give them wealth and children (means) that 55 We hasten in good works for them? No, they are not aware. 56 Indeed those who are overwhelmed due to the fear of their Lord – 57 who believe in the verses of their Lord; 58 and those who associate naught with their Lord 59 who give, whatever they give in charity, with their hearts trembling at the thought that they are destined to return to their Lord; 60 those, hasten in good works, outracing to them. 61 And We do not burden any soul beyond its capacity, and with Us is a Book* that speaks the truth, and they will not be wronged. (* The preserved tablet or the record of one’s deeds.) 62 Nay, their hearts are lost in ignorance of all this; and their deeds too vary from the way (mentioned above). They will persist in these deeds 63 Until, when We grasp those of them who lead a luxurious life with punishment, behold! They make humble invocation with a loud voice. 64 [But they will be told] "Cry not in supplication today; for, behold, you shall not be succoured by Us! 65 My verses were recited to you, but you turned upon your heels, 66 Insolently, treating them like tales told at night." 67 Have they not pondered the Word, or hath that come unto them which came not unto their fathers of old? 68 Or is it, perchance, that they have not recognized their Apostle, and so they disavow him? 69 Or do they say that he is possessed? In fact, he has brought the truth to them, but most of them abhor the truth. 70 And were the truth to follow their desires there would have been corrupted the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is therein. Aye! We have come to them with their admonition; so it is from their admonition that they turn away. 71 Or, is it that thou askest of them any maintenance? The maintenance of thy Lord is better, and He is the Best of providers. 72 Assuredly thou art calling them to a straight path; 73 But those who do not believe in the Hereafter have indeed deviated from that path. 74 ۞ Even if We were to grant them mercy and rescue them from hardship, they would still blindly persist in their rebellion. 75 And indeed, We tested them through suffering, but they did not abase themselves before their Sustainer; and they will never humble themselves 76 until We opened the gate of greater torment (death) and they suddenly found themselves in despair. 77
