۞ Those who do not hope to meet Us say: "Why are no angels sent down to us, or why do we not see our Lord?" They are full of self-conceit and behave with intense arrogance. 21 On the day when they shall see the angels, there shall be no joy on that day for the guilty, and they shall say: It is a forbidden thing totally prohibited. 22 for We shall have turned towards all the [supposedly good] deeds they ever wrought, and shall have transformed them into scattered dust 23 The inhabitants of the Garden will have the best residence and the finest lodging on that Day. 24 And on the Day on which the skies, together with the clouds, shall burst asunder, and the angels are made to descend in a mighty descent 25 the Kingdom that day, the true Kingdom, shall belong to the All-merciful and it shall be a day harsh for the unbelievers. 26 and a Day on which the evildoer will bite his hands [in despair,] exclaiming: "Oh, would that I had followed the path shown to me by the apostle! 27 O woe is me! would that I had not taken such a one for a friend! 28 He verily led me astray from the Reminder after it had reached me. Satan was ever man's deserter in the hour of need. 29 The Messenger will say, "Lord, my people did indeed discard the Quran," 30 Thus do We keep opponents among the sinners for every apostle; yet your Lord is sufficient as a guide and helper. 31 And the disbelievers say, “Why was the Qur’an not sent down to him all at once?” This is how We sent it in stages, in order to strengthen your heart with it and We read it slowly, in stages. 32 And (there is another wisdom in this: whenever they brought to you an odd thing (or a strange question), We sent its right answer to you in time and explained it all in the best manner, 33 Those who will be gathered on their faces unto hell: such are worse in plight and further from the right road. 34
