Recite unto them the story of Abraham: 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 'Do they hear you when you call on them' He asked. 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)." 74 He said: "Do ye then see whom ye have been worshipping,- 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 Lo! they are (all) an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the Worlds, 77 Who created me, and He [it is who] guides me. 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 who, when I am sick, heals me; 80 "Who will cause me to die, and then to life (again); 81 and He who will, I hope, forgive me my faults on the Day of the Judgement. 82 "O my Lord! bestow wisdom on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 and grant me the power to convey the truth unto those who will come after me, 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Pleasure. 85 And forgive my father. Indeed, he has been of those astray. 86 And humiliate me not on the Day whereon people shall be raised. 87 "The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 And Paradise will be brought near [that Day] to the righteous. 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 and they will be asked: "Where are the gods that you worshipped 92 beside Allah? Can they be of any help to you, or even be of any help to themselves?" 93 Then they shall be hurled therein, they and the seduced ones. 94 and the hosts of iblis all together. 95 They will say while they dispute therein, 96 “By oath of Allah, we were indeed in open error.” 97 When we made you equal to the Lord of the worlds; 98 And no one misguided us except the criminals. 99 We have no one to intercede for us before God 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 If only we could return we would be among the believers." 102 In all this, behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 103 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 104
