The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
And by the sun and its brightness; 1 and by the moon as it follows it; 2 by the day when it brightens the earth, 3 And [by] the night when it covers it 4 By the Firmament and its (wonderful) structure; 5 The earth and its spreading out, 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 And inspired in it the knowledge of its sins and its piety. 8 He who purifies it will indeed be successful, 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 when the most wicked of them broke forth, 12 Then the messenger of God said to them, "This is God's she-camel. Let her drink." 13 In response they belied him, and hamstrung the she camel – so Allah put ruin over them because of their sins and flattened their dwellings. 14 He does not fear the result (of their destruction). 15
