Relate the news of Abraham to them. 69 when he asked his father and others, "What do you worship?" 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 Or do they benefit you, or do they harm?" 73 They said: Nay, but we found our fathers acting on this wise. 74 He said: "Have you considered what you have been worshipping, 75 "You and your ancient fathers? 76 Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds, 77 Who created me, and He [it is who] guides me. 78 And He Who gives me to eat and gives me to drink: 79 and Who, when I am ill, heals me; 80 Who will cause me to die and then will again restore me to life; 81 And He Who, I long, shall forgive me my faults, on the Day of Requital. 82 My Lord, bestow wisdom upon me; unite me with the righteous; 83 And uphold my name with posterity, 84 “And make me among the inheritors of the Gardens of serenity.” 85 And forgive my father; verily he is of the erring. 86 And disgrace me not on the Day when (all the creatures) will be resurrected; 87 the Day when nothing will avail, neither wealth nor offspring, 88 Except him who brings to Allah a clean heart [clean from Shirk (polytheism) and Nifaq (hypocrisy)]. 89 (On that Day) the Garden will be brought near to the God-fearing, 90 whereas the blazing fire will be laid open before those who had been lost in grievous error; 91 And it shall be said to them: Where are those that you used to worship; 92 “Instead of Allah? Will they help you or retaliate?” 93 Then they shall be hurled therein, they and the seduced ones. 94 And the hosts of the Shaitan, all. 95 There they will quarrel with one another and the erring ones will say (to their deities): 96 'By God, we were certainly in manifest error 97 In equating you with the Lord of all the worlds; 98 It was the evildoers who led us astray, 99 Now we have none to intercede for us, 100 nor do we have a truly sincere friend. 101 “So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!” 102 Verily there is a sign in this, but many of them do not believe. 103 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 104
