And recount to them the story of Abraham: 69 Behold, he said to his father and his people: "What worship ye?" 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 "Or do they benefit you or harm you?" 73 They replied: 'No, but we found our fathers doing so' 74 Thereupon, Abraham said: "Have you seen (with your eyes) those whom you have been worshipping, 75 "Ye and your fathers before you?- 76 They are enemies to me except the Lord of all the Worlds 77 who created me; and He guides me, 78 And He Who gives me to eat and gives me to drink: 79 "And when I fall ill, so it is He Who heals me." 80 And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again), 81 "And the One Who, upon Whom I pin my hopes, will forgive me my mistakes on the Day of Judgement." 82 My Lord, give me Judgment, and join me with the righteous, 83 And grant me an honourable mention in later generations; 84 and make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 And forgive my father; verily he is of the erring. 86 "And let me not be in disgrace on the Day when (men) will be raised up;- 87 The day when neither wealth nor children will be of any avail 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 And Paradise shall be brought forward for the godfearing, 90 "And to those straying in Evil, the Fire will be placed in full view; 91 "And it shall be said to them: 'Where are the (gods) ye worshipped- 92 Instead of Allah? Can they help you or help themselves? 93 And they will be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 And all the armies of Satan. 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 By Allah! we were certainly in manifest error, 97 When We held you (false gods) as equals (in worship) with the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists); 98 "'And our seducers were only those who were steeped in guilt. 99 So now we have no intercessors 100 "'Nor a single friend to feel (for us). 101 Would that we had a second chance [in life,] so that we could be among the believers!" 102 Verily in this is a Sign but most of them do not believe. 103 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Ever Compassionate. 104
