And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They replied: 'We worship idols and continue cleaving to them' 71 He said: Do they hear you when you call? 72 Or do they benefit you, or do you harm?" 73 They replied, "But we found our fathers doing the same." 74 He said: have ye observed that which ye worship 75 you and your fathers, the elders? 76 They are all enemies to me; all, except the Lord of the Universe 77 Who created me and Who guides me; 78 “And the One Who feeds me and gives me to drink.” 79 and when I fall ill, is the One who restores me to health, 80 Who will cause me to die and then will again restore me to life; 81 And Who, I hope, will forgive me my mistakes on the day of judgment. 82 "O my Sustainer! Endow me with the ability to judge [between right and wrong,] and make me one with the righteous, 83 And appoint me a tongue of truthfulness among the latter. 84 and make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 and forgive my father; for he is one of the misguided; 86 and do not disgrace me on the Day when all people are resurrected, 87 "The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 And Hell is brought near to the perverse' 91 they will be asked, "Where are those whom you worshipped 92 Other than Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?" 93 Then they will be thrown headlong into Hell, both they and the misguided ones, 94 and Satan's legions, all together. 95 And there and then, blaming one another, they [who had grievously sinned in life] will exclaim: 96 "'By Allah, we were truly in an error manifest, 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of all Being. 98 yet they who have seduced us [into believing in you] are the truly guilty ones! 99 so now we have no intercessors, 100 nor a loving friend. 101 But if we could but once return, we would be of the believers. 102 Indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 103 Surely, Your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
