Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said to his father and his people: What do you worship? 70 They said: "We worship idols, and we remain constantly in attendance on them." 71 He said, 'Do they hear you when you call, 72 "Or do they benefit you or do they harm (you)?" 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 He said, "Then do you see what you have been worshipping, 75 "Ye and your fathers before you?- 76 "For they are enemies to me; not so the Lord and Cherisher of the Worlds; 77 "Who created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 and Himself gives me to eat and drink, 79 and Who, when I am ill, heals me; 80 “And He will give me death, then resurrect me.” 81 "And who, I hope, will forgive me my faults on the day of Judgment. 82 "O my Sustainer! Endow me with the ability to judge [between right and wrong,] and make me one with the righteous, 83 And grant me a reputation of honor among later generations. 84 and make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss; 85 and forgive my father for he is among those who strayed, 86 And disgrace me not on the Day when (all the creatures) will be resurrected; 87 The day when wealth and sons avail not (any man) 88 Except him who comes to Allah with a heart free (from evil). 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 And hell will appear plainly to the erring. 91 and they will be asked: "Where are the gods that you worshipped 92 "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?' 93 "Then they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire),- they and those straying in Evil, 94 And the whole hosts of Iblis (Satan) together. 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 "We were clearly misguided 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds. 98 It was but the guilty who misled us. 99 So now we have no intercessors 100 no caring friend. 101 But if we could but once return, we would be of the believers. 102 Verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 103 And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
