In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O YOU ENWRAPPED in the cloak (of Prophethood), 1 keep vigil the night, except a little 2 A half of it or a little less 3 Or add to it, and recite the Quran as it ought to be recited. 4 Behold, We shall bestow upon thee a weighty message 5 Surely, getting up at night [for worship] is the most potent means of subduing the self and most suitable for the word [of prayer]. 6 You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the world. 7 But recite the name of your Lord withdrawing yourself from everything, devoting yourself exclusively to Him. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 And bear with patience what they utter, and part from them with a fair leave-taking. 10 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile. 11 We have prepared for them fetters, flaming fire, 12 And food that chokes, and a painful punishment. 13 On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. 14 Verily We! We have sent unto you an apostle, a witness over you, even as We sent unto Fir'awn an apostle. 15 In response Firaun disobeyed the Noble Messenger, so We seized him with a severe seizure. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 Whereby heaven shall be split, and its promise shall be performed. 18 Verily this is an Admonition: therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) path to his Lord! 19
