The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 "Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 125 So fear God and listen to me. 126 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 127 What, do you build on every prominence a sign, sporting, 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 and when you strike you strike like tyrants? 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 He has given you cattle, children, 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 Verily I fear for you the torment of a Mighty Day. 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 We are not going to be damned." 138 Eventually they gave the lie to him and We destroyed them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
