Ad gave the lie to the apostles. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 fear God, then, and obey me. 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 "Do you build useless monuments on every mountain 128 And you make strong fortresses that perhaps you may 129 “And when you apprehend someone, you seize him mercilessly?” 130 Have fear of God and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 I fear the punishment of a terrible day for you. 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
