The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 when their brother Hood said to them, 'Will you not be godfearing? 124 I am a trustworthy messenger for you: 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally? 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants! 130 Rather keep your duty to Allah, and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 Gave you increase of cattle and sons, 133 And gardens and springs. 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 They said, 'Alike it is to us, whether thou admonishest, or art not one of the admonishers; 136 This has been happening all along. 137 And we are not to be punished." 138 In response they denied him – We therefore destroyed them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 139 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 140
