Ad cried lies to the Envoys 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 125 "So fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I ask of you no hire therefor: my hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 and do you take to you castles, haply to dwell forever? 129 "And when ye exert your strong hand, do ye do it like men of absolute power? 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 Have fear of Him Who has provided you with all the (good) things you know; 132 He has bestowed on you cattle, and sons, 133 gardens, and springs. 134 Lo! I fear for you the retribution of an awful day. 135 They replied: 'It is the same to us whether you admonish or whether you are not one of the admonishers. 136 This is but a custom of the ancients. 137 And we are not going to be tormented. 138 Then they accused him of lies; so We annihilated them. Verily there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
