The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 when their brother Hud said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 Do you build over each high place a sign to amuse yourselves! 128 and make for yourselves mighty castles, [hoping] that you might become immortal? 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 Have fear of God and obey me. 131 Fear Him who has given you all the things you know. 132 Gave you increase of cattle and sons, 133 gardens, and springs. 134 'Indeed, I fear for you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 "This is no other than a customary device of the ancients, 137 And we are not going to be tormented. 138 So they belied him, and We destroyed them. Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 140
