[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 Have fear of God and obey me. 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 You construct monuments on every hill in vain, 128 "And do you get for yourselves palaces (fine buildings) as if you will live therein for ever. 129 And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants? 130 “Therefore fear Allah, and obey me.” 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 Who has provided you with flocks and children 133 and with gardens and springs. 134 “Indeed I fear upon you the punishment of a Great Day.” 135 They said: "It is the same to us if you warn us or do not warn. 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 They rejected him and We destroyed them. 138 Eventually they gave the lie to him and We destroyed them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 139 And verily thy Lord? He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
