Thamud (people) belied the Messenger. 141 When their brother Salih (Saleh) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 142 Surely I am a faithful apostle to you 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 145 "Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] in the midst of what you have here and now? 146 In gardens and fountains, 147 “And fields and palm-trees, with delicate tendrils?” 148 Though ye hew out dwellings in the mountain, being skilful? 149 So fear God and obey me: 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 and spread mischief in the land rather than set things right." 152 They said: "Surely you are deluded. 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 He said: This is a she-camel; she shall have her portion of water, and you have your portion of water on an appointed time; 155 and do her no harm, lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 So the chastisement seized them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 158 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 159
