The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
