The Thamud (people) rejected the messengers. 141 Behold, their brother Salih said to them: "Will you not fear (Allah)? 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 "So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 Do you believe that you will be left here to live securely in the present state 146 In gardens and fountains, 147 And cornfields and palm-trees having fine spadices? 148 And hew ye out houses in the mountains skilfully! 149 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me; 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 Who cause corruption in the land and do not amend." 152 They replied, "Surely you are bewitched. 153 You are only a human being like ourselves. Show us a sign, if you are telling the truth." 154 He said, 'This is a she-camel; to her a draught and to you a draught, on a day appointed, 155 Do not molest her lest the chastisement of an Awesome Day should seize you." 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 And the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 158 And lo! thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
