The Thamud belied the sent ones 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 So fear God and follow me. 144 I do not ask any recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in what is here; 146 "In gardens and springs. 147 sown fields, and palms with slender spathes? 148 And hew ye out houses in the mountains skilfully! 149 Therefor keep your duty to Allah and obey me, 150 And obey not the command of the extravagant. 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 They said: "You are only of those bewitched! 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 He said: 'Here is a shecamel. She shall have her share of water as you have yours on an appointed day. 155 “And do not touch her with evil intentions for the punishment of the Great Day will seize you.” 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 The punishment therefore seized them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 158 And verily! Your Lord, He is indeed the All-Mighty, the Most Merciful. 159
