Thamood, belied their Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 Truly, I am a trustworthy messenger for you, 143 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] -- 146 In gardens and watersprings. 147 and cornfields, and palm-trees laden with fruit -- 148 "And ye carve houses out of (rocky) mountains with great skill. 149 So be mindful of God and listen to me. 150 and pay no heed to the counsel of those who are given to excesses 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and mend not (their ways)." 152 Said they: "Thou art but one of the bewitched! 153 You are nothing but a man like us. Bring us a token if you speak the truth." 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. She will have her share of water as you have your share, each on a certain day. 155 Do not treat her unkindly or the punishment of a grievous day will fall on you." 156 They slew the she-camel, but later became regretful 157 And the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 158 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
