[AND] the people of Lot gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 160 Their brother Lot asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 161 I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 162 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 163 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 164 "Go you in unto the males of the 'Alamin (mankind), 165 leaving your wives that your Lord created for you? Nay, but you are a people of transgressors. 166 'Lot' they replied, 'if you do not desist, you shall be thrown out' 167 [Lot] exclaimed: "Behold, I am one of those who utterly abhor your doings!" 168 Lord, save me and my family from their deeds." 169 We therefore rescued him and his entire family. 170 Save an old woman among the lingerers. 171 then We totally destroyed the rest, 172 And rained on them a shower (of Stones). How terrible was the rain (that fell) on those who had been warned! 173 Surely in this there is a sign: but most of them would not believe: 174 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 175
