And this (Qur'an) is a revelation from the Lord of all the worlds, 192 It has been revealed through the trustworthy Spirit 193 Upon your heart, for you to convey warning. 194 In plain Arabic language. 195 (a revelation embodied) in the scriptures of the ancients. 196 Is it not evidence enough for them that the learned among the Children of Israel have recognized this [as true]? 197 If We had sent it down on a barbarian 198 So that he should have recited it to them, they would not have believed therein. 199 Thus have We inserted disbelief into the hearts of the criminals. 200 They will not believe therein until they behold the torment afflictive. 201 It will come upon them unawares, and they will not comprehend it. 202 Then they will say: are we to be respited? 203 Do they wish to hasten Our punishment? 204 Have you then considered if We let them enjoy themselves for years, 205 and then the chastisement of which they were being warned were to come upon them, 206 what will it then avail them, the enjoyment of days they were given? 207 Never have We destroyed a town without sending down messengers to warn it, 208 as a reminder from Us: We are never unjust. 209 The devils did not bring it down. 210 It is not allowable for them, nor would they be able. 211 Most surely they are far removed from the hearing of it. 212 Therefor invoke not with Allah another god, lest thou be one of the doomed. 213 And warn thou thy clan, the nearest ones. 214 And lower thy wing (in kindness) unto those believers who follow thee. 215 If they disobey you, say: 'I am quit of what you do' 216 Have trust in the Majestic and All-merciful God, 217 Who watches you when you stand up. 218 and when thou turnest about among those who bow. 219 For it is He Who heareth and knoweth all things. 220 Should I tell you on whom the devils descend? 221 They descend on every guilty impostor. 222 (Into whose ears) they pour hearsay vanities, and most of them are liars. 223 And the poets - [only] the deviators follow them; 224 Hast thou not seen how they stray in every valley, 225 And that they say that which they do not? 226 except those who believed and acted righteously and remembered Allah much, and when they themselves were subjected to wrong, they exacted retribution no more than to the extent of the wrong? Soon will the wrong-doers know the end that they shall reach. 227
