Truly, it is the sending of the Lord of the Worlds. 192 Which the trustworthy Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] has brought down; 193 To (communicate) to your heart that you may be a warner 194 in clear Arabic speech. 195 Without doubt it is (announced) in the mystic Books of former peoples. 196 Was it not a proof for them that the learned men of Israel knew about this? 197 And if We had revealed it (this Quran) unto any of the non-Arabs, 198 and he had recited it to them, they would not have believed in it. 199 Thus have We caused this (Admonition) to penetrate the hearts of the culprits (like a hot rod). 200 They will not believe therein until they behold the torment afflictive. 201 The torment will strike them suddenly without their knowledge. 202 Then they will say: are we to be respited? 203 Do they want to hasten Our punishment? 204 Did you consider that if We were to let them enjoy life for many years 205 and then the promised punishment fell upon them, 206 what avail will their past enjoyments be to them? 207 And never did We destroy a township which did not have Heralds of warning, – 208 to admonish them. We have never been unjust. 209 It was not the devils who brought down the Quran: 210 It behoveth them not, nor they can. 211 The satans are barred from listening to anything from the heavens. 212 So call on no other god but God, lest you are condemned to torment; 213 And warn your near relations, 214 And lower thou thy wing unto those who follow thee as believers. 215 but if they disobey thee, say: "I am free of responsibility for aught that you may do!" 216 And rely upon the Exalted in Might, the Merciful, 217 who sees thee when thou standest [alone,] 218 and observes your movements among those who prostrate themselves. 219 He is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 220 Shall I inform you upon whom do the devils descend? 221 They descend on every great accuser, extreme sinner. (The magicians) 222 (Into whose ears) they pour hearsay vanities, and most of them are liars. 223 As for the poets, only those who go astray follow them. 224 Art thou not aware that they roam confusedly through all the valleys [of words and thoughts,] 225 And that they say what they practise not?- 226 Except those who believe and do the right, and remember God a great deal, who retaliate only when they have been wronged. Yet the oppressors will now come to know through what reversals they will be overthrown! 227
