Can someone to whom We have made a gracious promise and who will see it fulfilled, be compared to someone We have allowed to enjoy a worldly life, awhile, and who will be brought up [before God] for his accounting on the Day of Resurrection? 61 That day God will call them and ask: "Where are they you imagined were My compeers?" 62 Those about whom the Word will have come true (to be punished) will say: "Our Lord! These are they whom we led astray. We led them astray, as we were astray ourselves. We declare our innocence (from them) before You. It was not us they worshipped." 63 Then they will be told, "Call upon your partners." And they will call upon them, but will receive no answer. They shall witness the punishment. If only they had allowed themselves to be guided. 64 And [mention] the Day He will call them and say, "What did you answer the messengers?" 65 Then the (whole) story that Day will seem obscure to them (like light to the blind) and they will not be able (even) to question each other. 66 But those who repented and believed and acted righteously, they will perhaps be among those who will prosper there. 67 And thy Lord createth whatsoever He listeth and chooseth; no choice is to be for them. Hallowed be Allah and exalted above that which they associate! 68 And thy Lord knoweth that which their breasts conceal and that which they make known. 69 He is the only God and it is only He who deserves to be given thanks in this world and in the life to come. Judgment is in His hands and to Him you will all return. 70 Say: Tell me, if Allah were to make the night to continue incessantly on you till the day of resurrection, who is the god besides Allah that could bring you light? Do you not then hear? 71 Say, "Do you not think that if God were to cause the day to continue until the Day of Judgment, which Lord besides Him could bring you the night to rest. Do you not see (His signs)?" 72 It is out of His Mercy that He has put for you night and day, that you may rest therein (i.e. during the night) and that you may seek of His Bounty (i.e. during the day), and in order that you may be grateful. 73 And on the Day He shall call out to them and say, "Where are those whom you alleged were My partners." 74 And [they will remain silent: for by then] We will have called forth witnesses from within every community, and will have said [unto the sinners]: "Produce an evidence for what you have been claiming!" And so they will come to understand that all truth is God's [alone]; and all their false imagery will have forsaken them. 75
