۞ [The angels will be ordered], "Gather those who committed wrong, their kinds, and what they used to worship 22 "Besides Allah, and lead them to the Way to the (Fierce) Fire! 23 and halt them [there]!" [And then,] behold, they shall be asked, 24 They will be asked, "Why do you not help each other?" 25 Nay, but that Day they shall surrender, 26 And they will advance toward each other mutually questioning. 27 They will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right." 28 [To which] the others will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were bereft of all faith! 29 we had no authority over you; no, you were an insolent people. 30 So on us hath been justified the sentence of our Lord: verily we are to taste. 31 For we had led you astray. In fact we ourselves were astray." 32 Then verily, that Day, they will (all) share in the torment. 33 Surely thus do We deal with the guilty. 34 for when it was said to them, 'There is no god but God,' they were ever waxing proud, 35 And they said: are we going to abandon our gods on account of a poet distracted? 36 Nay, but he [whom you call a mad poet] has brought the truth; and he confirms the truth of [what the earlier of God's] message-bearers [have taught]. 37 “You surely have to taste the painful punishment.” 38 And you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do - 39 Not so, however, God's true servants: 40 [in the hereafter,] theirs shall be a sustenance which they will recognize 41 a variety of delicious fruits; and they shall be honoured 42 in the Gardens of Bliss. 43 on couches facing each other. 44 Cups of wine will be presented to them in rounds, from a spring flowing in front of them. 45 white and delicious to those who drink it, 46 Neither dulling the senses nor intoxicating, 47 And with them will be mates of modest gaze, most beautiful of eye, 48 so delicate as the hidden peel under an egg's shell. 49 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 50 One of them will say: 'I had a companion 51 Who would say, 'Are you indeed of those who believe 52 What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be requited?" 53 He will say: -- Do you wish to know where he is now?' 54 He therefore looked down and saw him amidst the blazing fire. 55 He saith: By Allah, thou verily didst all but cause my ruin, 56 for had it not been for my Sustainer's favour, I would surely be [now] among those who are given over [to suffering]! 57 He will ask his companion, "Did you not say that there would only be one death 58 Saving our former death, and are we not to be punished? 59 Indeed, this is the mighty victory, 60 and for the like of this let the workers work. 61 So is this welcome better, or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Verily We! We have made it a temptation for the wrong-doers. 63 It is a tree that grows from the bottom of Hell; 64 Its fruit like the heads of demons. 65 Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then on top of that they will be given a mixture made of boiling water. 67 And thereafter verily their return is unto the Flaming Fire. 68 They found their fathers had gone astray; 69 and [now] they make haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 And verily most of the men of old went astray before them, 71 But We sent aforetime, among them, (messengers) to admonish them;- 72 Observe, then, what was the end of those that had been warned, 73 EXCEPT for God's true servants, [most people are apt to go astray.] 74
