۞ (And it is said unto the angels): Assemble those who did wrong, together with their wives and what they used to worship 22 "Instead of Allah, and lead them on to the way of flaming Fire (Hell); 23 and halt them [there]!" [And then,] behold, they shall be asked, 24 "What is the matter with you that you do not help each other?" 25 Indeed, today they are surrendering themselves completely.” 26 And some of them inclined towards others, mutually questioning. 27 They said, “It is you who used to come to us from our right, in order to sway.” 28 They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! 29 we had no power over you; but you yourselves were a rebellious people. 30 So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment]. 31 we perverted you, indeed, we were perverts' 32 So, they will become partners in punishment. 33 This is how We deal with the criminals. 34 Truly, when it was said to them: La ilaha ill-Allah "(none has the right to be worshipped but Allah)," they puffed themselves up with pride (i.e. denied it). 35 And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?" 36 Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers. 37 Verily, you (pagans of Makkah) are going to taste the painful torment; 38 And be rewarded but only for what you had done, 39 Except the chosen creatures of God, 40 there is waiting for them a known provision; 41 and fruits while they are honored. 42 in the Gardens of Bliss, 43 upon couches, set face to face, 44 a cup filled with wine from its springs, will be passed around to them; 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 causing no headiness or intoxication. 47 And with them shall be those who restrain the eyes, having beautiful eyes; 48 As if they were eggs carefully protected. 49 Then they will advance unto each other, mutually questioning. 50 One of them will say: 'I had a companion 51 Who said: What! are you indeed of those who accept (the truth)? 52 After we are dead and have become all dust and bones shall we still be requited?' 53 He saith: Will ye look? 54 and then he looks and sees that [companion of his] in the midst of the blazing fire, 55 He saith: By Allah, thou verily didst all but cause my ruin, 56 And had it not been for the favour of my Lord, I too had been of those haled forth (to doom). 57 He will ask his companion, "Did you not say that there would only be one death 58 “Except our earlier death, and nor will we be punished?” 59 Indeed, this is the mighty victory, 60 It is for the like of this that all should strive. 61 Is this a better hospitality or the tree of al-Zaqqum? 62 Verily We! We have made it a temptation for the wrong-doers. 63 Surely it is a tree that-grows in the bottom of the hell; 64 its fruit [as repulsive] as satans' heads; 65 on it they shall feed, and with it they shall fill their bellies. 66 then in addition to it they shall have a draught of boiling water to drink; 67 Then indeed, their return will be to the Hellfire. 68 Indeed they found their fathers astray. 69 So they (too) made haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 And there had already strayed before them most of the former peoples, 71 although, verily, We had sent warners unto them: 72 See how terrible was the end of those who were warned. 73 Except the chosen bondmen of Allah. 74
