۞ Gather together those who were unjust and their associates, and what they used to worship 22 Other than Allah, and guide them to the path of Hellfire 23 And halt them, to be questioned: 24 "How is it that [now] you cannot succour one another?" 25 Nay! on that day they shall be submissive. 26 And they will turn to one another, and question one another. 27 "It was you who tried to mislead us from righteousness". 28 They will say: "No, you were the ones who would not believe. 29 We had no authority over you, in fact, you were a rebellious people. 30 But now our Sustainer's word has come true against us [as well]: verily, we are bound to taste [the fruit of our sins]. 31 We led you astray as we were ourselves astray." 32 So this day they all are partners in the punishment. 33 Lo! thus deal We with the guilty. 34 For when it was said to them: 'There is no god except Allah' they were always proud 35 and said, "Should we give up our idols for the sake of an insane poet". 36 'No indeed; but he brought the truth, and confirmed the Envoys. 37 Lo! (now) verily ye taste the painful doom - 38 although you shall not be requited for aught but what you were wont to do. 39 But the chosen servants of God; 40 For them is a Sustenance determined, 41 Fruits; and they will be honored 42 in the Gardens of Delight, 43 sitting face to face upon couches, 44 There will be circulated among them a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring, 45 white, a delight to the drinkers, 46 Neither dulling the senses nor intoxicating, 47 They will have with them loving wives with big black and white eyes 48 As if they were eggs, safely hidden. 49 So one among them turns to the other, questioning. – 50 A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth] 51 Who used to say: "Are you among those who believe (in resurrection after death). 52 After we are dead and have become all dust and bones shall we still be requited?' 53 He saith: Will ye look? 54 Then he will look downwards, and will see him in the depths of Hell. 55 He said: "By Allah! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition! 56 And had it not been for the favor of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those brought up. 57 Then, are we not to die 58 Saving our former death, and are we not to be punished? 59 Indeed, this is the great attainment. 60 and for the like of this let the workers work. 61 Is this not a better reward than the tree of Zaqqum 62 We have appointed it as a trial for the evildoers. 63 Indeed it is a tree that sprouts from the base of hell. 64 Its spathes are like the prickly pear. 65 on it they shall feed, and with it they shall fill their bellies. 66 Washing it down with boiling water. 67 Then their return will be to the same blazing Hell. 68 These are the ones who found their fathers steeped in error, 69 and [now] they make haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 And assuredly many of the ancients went astray before them, 71 And verily We sent among them warners. 72 Observe, then, what was the end of those that had been warned, 73 Except the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 74
