۞ (Then will the command be given): “Muster all the wrong-doers and their spouses and the deities whom they used to serve 22 Besides Allah, then lead them to the way to hell. 23 "But stop them, verily they are to be questioned. 24 “What is the matter with you, that you do not help one another?” 25 Nay! on that day they shall be submissive. 26 but [since it will be too late,] they will turn upon one another, demanding of each other [to relieve them of the burden of their past sins]. 27 They will say, "You used to come at us from the right." 28 The oppressors will say, "Rather, you [yourselves] were not believers, 29 We had no power over you, but ye were wayward folk. 30 So on us hath been justified the sentence of our Lord: verily we are to taste. 31 We seduced you astray; verily we were ourselves the seduced ones. 32 Then lo! this day they (both) are sharers in the doom. 33 that is how We deal with evil-doers. 34 Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant 35 And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?" 36 Nay: he has come with the truth and verified the apostles. 37 Now certainly you shall be tasting the painful chastisement, 38 and not be recompensed, except according to what you were doing.' 39 Except the chosen creatures of God, 40 For them there will be a known provision (in Paradise). 41 Fruits. And they will be honoured 42 In Gardens of Delight. 43 on couches facing each other. 44 A bowl shall be made to go round them from water running out of springs, 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 No headiness there shall be therein, nor shall they be therewith inebriated. 47 And with them will be maidens (houris) who restrain their wide glances 48 As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected. 49 Then some of them will turn to others, and will ask each other. 50 A speaker of them will say: "Verily, I had a companion (in the world), 51 who used to ask, 'Do you really believe that 52 That when we have died and become dust and bones, we will indeed be recompensed?'" 53 (A voice) said: "Would ye like to look down?" 54 He looked down and saw (his friend) in the midst of Hell. 55 He said: "By Allah! You have nearly ruined me. 56 Had it not been for the grace of my Lord I too would have been there (in Hell). 57 So, are we not going to die, 58 except for our first death? And shall we suffer no chastisement?'” 59 Verily this! that is the supreme achievement. 60 For the like of this, then, let them labour, those who labour [in God's way]! 61 Is Paradise a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqum? 62 We have indeed made that a punishment for the unjust. 63 Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire, 64 Its emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils. 65 Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 Then on top of it they will have a brew of boiling water. 67 then surely they shall return to Hell. 68 They indeed found their fathers astray, 69 Yet they hasten to follow in their footsteps. 70 And assuredly there went stray before them many of the ancients. 71 though We had sent warners among them. 72 Then see the nature of the consequence for those warned, 73 Other than the chosen creatures of God. 74
