۞ (And it is said unto the angels): Assemble those who did wrong, together with their wives and what they used to worship 22 “Instead of Allah – and herd them to the path leading to hell.” 23 “And stop them – they are to be questioned.” 24 "How is it that [now] you cannot succour one another?" 25 Nay, but that day they shall submit (to Judgment); 26 and approach each other with questions, 27 They shall say: Surely you used to come to us from the right side. 28 They will say: “Nay, you yourselves were not the ones who would believe. 29 Moreover, we had no power at all over you: nay, you were people filled with overweening arrogance! 30 "So now the Word of our Lord has been justified against us, that we shall certainly (have to) taste (the torment). 31 we perverted you, indeed, we were perverts' 32 So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment. 33 that is how We deal with evil-doers. 34 When they were told, "There is no deity but God," they turned away with disdain, 35 and would say: "Shall we, then, give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 (They say so although) he brought the Truth and confirmed the veracity of the Messengers. 37 (They will be told), "You will certainly suffer the painful torment 38 and not be recompensed, except according to what you were doing.' 39 Except the chosen creatures of God, 40 for them awaits a known provision, 41 Fruits; and they will be honored 42 In gardens of delight, 43 on couches facing each other. 44 A bowl shall be made to go round them from water running out of springs, 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 No headiness there shall be therein, nor shall they be therewith inebriated. 47 And with them maidens of modest look and large lustrous eyes, 48 [as free of faults] as if they were hidden [ostrich] eggs. 49 Then they will turn to one another and question one another. 50 A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth] 51 who used to say: -- Are you also one of those who confirm the Truth (of life after death)? 52 ‘That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?’ 53 Allah will say: will ye look down? 54 Then he will look downwards, and will see him in the depths of Hell. 55 He will say, "By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 But for my Lord's blessing, I were one of the arraigned. 57 "Is it (the case) that we shall not die, 58 “Except our earlier death, and nor will we be punished?” 59 Verily this is the supreme achievement! 60 for the like of this let the workers work.' 61 Is Paradise a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqum? 62 Verily We! We have made it a temptation for the wrong-doers. 63 It is a tree that comes forth in the root of Hell; 64 The shoots of its fruit-stalks are like the heads of Shayatin (devils); 65 They will eat and fill their bellies with it, 66 Washing it down with boiling water. 67 And once again: Verily, the blazing fire is their ultimate goal 68 Verily they found their fathers gone astray. 69 So they (too) were rushed down on their footsteps! 70 And verily most of the men of old went astray before them, 71 And We had already sent among them warners. 72 Look, then how was the end of those who had been warned, 73 Other than the chosen creatures of God. 74
