Jonah, too, was one of the Messengers. 139 When he ran away (like a slave from captivity) to the ship (fully) laden, 140 and cast lots, and he was among the losers (of the lots that were cast). 141 Then the big Fish did swallow him, and he had done acts worthy of blame. 142 And had he not been of those who exalt Allah, 143 He would have tarried in the belly thereof till the Day when they are raised. 144 ۞ But We cast him forth on the naked shore while he was sick, 145 and caused a creeping plant to grow over him [out of the barren soil]. 146 We sent him to a hundred thousand men or more, 147 and they believed. So We let them enjoy life for a while. 148 So inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons? 149 Or did We create the angels females, while they were witnesses? 150 Lo! it is of their falsehood that they say: 151 Allah has begotten; and most surely they are liars. 152 (And again of their falsehood): He hath preferred daughters to sons. 153 What ails you then, how you judge? 154 Will ye not then reflect? 155 Or do you have a clear authority? 156 Bring your Book, if you are truthful. 157 And they have appointed a relationship between Him and the jinns; and indeed the jinns surely know that they will be brought forth. 158 God is too glorious for what they ascribe to Him 159 Not (so do) the Servants of Allah, sincere and devoted. 160 So, verily you (pagans) and those whom you worship (idols). 161 can lure away from God any 162 Except he who is to [enter and] burn in the Hellfire. 163 (Those ranged in ranks say): "Not one of us but has a place appointed; 164 Lo! we, even we are they who set the ranks, 165 and we are of those who glorify Allah.” 166 And indeed the disbelievers used to say, – 167 "If we had a reminder as had the men of old (before the coming of Prophet Muhammad SAW as a Messenger of Allah). 168 We would be single-minded slaves of Allah. 169 And yet, [now that this divine writ has been placed before them,] they refuse to acknowledge it as true! In time, however, they will come to know [what it was that they had rejected]: 170 Our word had already been given before to Our votaries, the apostles, -- 171 that it is certainly they who will be helped; 172 and Our host -- they are the victors. 173 So withdraw from them (O Muhammad) awhile, 174 and see, and soon they too shall see. 175 Do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 176 When it descends into their courtyard, it will be terrible for those who have already been warned. 177 So turn thou from them for a while, 178 And watch, for they will soon see. 179 LIMITLESS in His glory is thy Sustainer, the Lord of almightiness, [exalted] above anything that men may devise by way of definition! 180 And peace be on the apostles. 181 And all praise is to Allah, the Lord Of The Creation. 182
