Jonah too was one of the Envoys; 139 [Mention] when he ran away to the laden ship. 140 And then drew lots and was of those rejected; 141 Then the big Fish did swallow him, and he had done acts worthy of blame. 142 But had it not been that he was of those who glorify (Us), 143 he would certainly have remained inside the fish till the Day of Resurrection. 144 ۞ Then We cast him on a bare desert whilst he was sick. 145 And We caused to grow, over him, a spreading plant of the gourd kind. 146 And [then] We sent him [once again] to [his people,] a hundred thousand [souls] or more: 147 and they believed, and We gave them enjoyment for awhile. 148 Now ask them whether your Lord has daughters, whereas they have sons. 149 Or created We the angels females while they were present? 150 Verily, it is of their falsehood that they (Quraish pagans) say: 151 Allah has begotten; and most surely they are liars. 152 Has He (then) chosen daughters rather than sons? 153 What is the matter with you that you make such strange judgements? 154 Will you not then remember? 155 Or is there for you a plain authority? 156 Then bring ye your Book (of authority) if ye be truthful! 157 They assert kinship between Him and the angels. But the angels know that they (the liars) will be arraigned (in Hell). 158 Glory be to Allah (for freedom) from what they describe; 159 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 160 So neither you nor those you worship 161 Ye cannot excite (anyone) against Him. 162 except those who are doomed to enter hell. 163 (Gabriel said to the Prophet): 'Each of us has a known place. 164 "And we are truly those who stand in rows, 165 And we are most surely they who declare the glory (of Allah). 166 And indeed they (Arab pagans) used to say; 167 “If only we had the Reminder which had been granted to the people of yore 168 we would have certainly been sincere servants of God". 169 but they have rejected it, [the Quran] and they shall soon learn! 170 for, long ago has Our word gone forth unto Our servants, the message-bearers, 171 Most surely they shall be the assisted ones 172 and that Our army will be triumphant. 173 Therefore turn away from them for some time. 174 And watch them (how they fare), and they soon shall see (how thou farest)! 175 Do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 176 When that chastisement will descend upon their courtyard, evil shall that Day be for those who had been warned. 177 Leave them alone for a while, 178 And watch and they shall see (the torment)! 179 Glorified be your Lord, the Lord of Honour and Power! (He is free) from what they attribute unto Him! 180 Peace be on the Messengers. 181 And all praise is to Allah, the Lord Of The Creation. 182
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
